ANDHRA HISTORY AND CULTURE BY NAGARAJAN ETHAMAKULA : Ancient to 1956

Sri Nagarajan Ethamakula is a retired Associate Professor of History with more than three decades of dedicated teaching experience in Government Degree Colleges of Andhra Pradesh. Born on 2 March 1958, he developed a deep interest in History from an early stage of his academic career. He pursued his higher education at S.V. Junior/Arts College and Sri Venkateswara University, obtaining his B.A. in 1979, M.A. in 1981 and M.Phil. in 1983.

He entered the teaching profession through the Andhra Pradesh Public Service Commission (APPSC) and served in several Government Degree Colleges, including those at Nagari, Puttur, Sankarapuram and Vadamalapeta. During his distinguished academic career, he inspired generations of students through his clear, engaging and scholarly lectures in History. He was particularly appreciated for presenting historical events, personalities and cultural developments in a simple, systematic and interesting manner.

Alongside his teaching career, he actively participated in professional and teachers' associations, including APGTSLA and GCTA, and was associated with various academic and educational activities. His extensive experience as a teacher gave him a deep understanding of the needs of students and the importance of presenting History in a manner that encourages understanding rather than mere memorisation.

His lifelong association with History and education inspired him to write Andhra History and Culture, with the aim of preserving historical knowledge and making it accessible to students, teachers, competitive-examination aspirants, researchers and history enthusiasts. His writings reflect his commitment to presenting the rich historical journey and cultural heritage of Andhra in a clear and student-friendly manner.

After retiring from Government service, Sri Nagarajan Ethamakula continued his academic engagement through writing and sharing his knowledge of History. His work represents the culmination of his long teaching experience, scholarly interest and dedication to education.

Through Andhra History and Culture, he seeks to make the history and cultural heritage of Andhra accessible to a wider readership, including those beyond the Telugu-speaking community. His work is a reflection of his lifelong dedication to History, teaching and education, and of his desire to make the study of Andhra's past meaningful, engaging and accessible to the next generation.
